Transportation Woes Lead General Mills to Recall 1.8 Million Boxes of Cheerios

General Mills has recalled approximately 1.8 million boxes of Cheerios and Honey Nut Cheerios because of the possible presence of wheat. General Mills announced in February its five varieties of Cheerios would henceforth be gluten-free.  The company said that “in an isolated incident involving purely human error, wheat flour was inadvertently introduced into our gluten-free oat flour system” at its Lodi, California, plant after a rail service disruption caused the company to off-load gluten-free oat flour from rail cars to trucks for delivery to the Lodi plant.
