Syngenta Hit With $217.7 Million Verdict in First GMO Corn Trial

A Kansas federal jury awarded $217.7 million to a group of Kansas farmers who blamed five years of depressed corn prices on Syngenta AG, which the farmers claimed rushed its genetically modified corn seed to market without first obtaining approval from China to market the GMO corn there. Syngenta’s GMO corn commingled with non-GMO corn stocks, causing China to ban all U.S. corn imports.  Syngenta faces numerous similar suits claiming a total of $13 billion in damages. [6/28/17]
