Self-Driving Tesla Warned Driver Multiple Times to Keep His Hands on the Wheel Prior to Fatal Crash

The National Transportation Safety Board Monday released more than 500 pages of documents concerning the fatal 2016 highway crash involving a Tesla Model S operating in “Autopilot mode” and a tractor-semitrailer truck near Williston, Florida. NTSB investigators say that, prior to the collision, the car audibly warned the driver six times to keep his hands on the steering wheel and provided seven visual warnings on the car’s dashboard.
