Researchers Identify “Crash Override” Malware Purpose-Built to Disrupt Power Grids and Industrial Controls; Huge Threat Seen

Security researchers have identified the malware used in a cyberattack on Ukraine’s power grid and warn that it threatens power grids and industrial control systems worldwide. Called “Crash Override” and “Industroyer,” the malware represents the second known instance of malicious code purpose-built to disrupt physical systems, such as industrial control systems. (The first was Stuxnet, which was used to destroy centrifuges in an Iranian nuclear enrichment facility in 2009.) [6/15/17]
