Long-Term Report Increases Scrutiny on Controversial Contraceptive Implants

Recently released long-term data on Essure, a contraceptive implant currently manufactured by Bayer, revealed many serious complications for patients. The Food and Drug Administration has received more than 4,000 reports of serious complications related to the device. Complications include severe back and pelvic pain and piercing of organs. About 750,000 devices are in use worldwide. [5/4/15]
