Judge Halves $1.04 Billion Artificial Hip Verdict Against J&J

U.S. District Judge Ed Kinkeade of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas cut nearly in half a $1.04 billion verdict returned by a jury in December against Johnson & Johnson and its DePuy unit. The judge left undisturbed the jury’s finding that Johnson & Johnson and DePuy hid defects in Pinnacle artificial hips, but cited constitutional considerations in reducing the punitive damages award.
