Herbalife to Pay $200 Million, Restructure Sales Practices to Settle FTC Charges

Herbalife International of America, Inc., Herbalife International, Inc., and Herbalife, Ltd. will pay $200 million to consumers who purchased Herbalife products in order to open “Nutrition Clubs” as part of Herbalife’s multi-level marketing program, and have agreed to fully restructure their U.S. business operations to settle Federal Trade Commission charges that the companies deceived consumers into believing they could earn substantial money selling diet, nutritional supplement, and personal care products.  The settlement requires Herbalife to restructure its business so that participants are rewarded for what they sell, not how many people they recruit.
