Gates Foundation Commissions Child Mortality Study

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation announced plans to use $75 million dollars in donation to start small disease-surveillance teams in six poor countries to do minimal autopsies and investigate causes of child mortality and spot emerging epidemics. The teams will photograph bodies and take needle biopsies from organs and send the samples to W.H.O.-certified regional laboratories or to the C.D.C. in Atlanta to establish the cause of death.
