Federal Government: Fines Need to Follow Security/Privacy Breaches

The federal government is looking to increase enforcement efforts on insurers, hospitals and doctors that do not adequately protect security. Since October 2009, there have been more than 1,140 large breaches to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Office for Civil Rights. Yet, over that time span, the Office has fined health care organizations just 22 times. [3/2/15]
