European Union Rejects Compromise License for Continued Use of Glyphosate in Europe

European Union countries on Monday rejected a compromise that would have extended the herbicide glyphosate's use license for 12 to 18 months to allow the European Chemicals Agency to conduct further scientific study on the chemical.  If the license is not renewed, sales of Roundup and other glyphosate products may be limited, threatening withdrawal of Monsanto's Roundup and other weed-killers from shelves if no decision is reached by the end of the month.
