CPSC Chair Warns of Higher Penalties for Delayed Safety Hazard Reports

CPSC Chairman Elliot Kaye told an audience in Florida that CPSC intends to impose higher penalties – up to the $15 million authorized by Congress in the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 – on companies that delay reporting safety hazards to the agency.  Kaye said that the penalties needed to be high enough so that they were not considered merely a cost of doing business.
