Citizens Petition Seeks Review of Food Labeling Rule

The Natural Products Association, an natural products trade group, has filed a Citizens Petition with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration asking FDA to reconsider its 2016 Food Labeling Rule. The NPA argues that the Rule is inconsistent with the Trump Administration’s goal of eliminating burdensome regulations and says that the FDA’s decision to require a Daily Value for added sugars finds no support in either science or consumer surveys, and that the Rule’s definition of what is and what isn’t a “dietary fiber” is not scientifically sound.
