Airline Pilot Seeks to Revive PTSD Claim for Near Crash

A former United Airlines pilot urges the Ninth Circuit to revive his PTSD claim for narrowly avoiding a crash after a flight management software malfunction during a landing attempt at the San Francisco airport. The lower court granted summary judgment for Honeywell International because plaintiff was a trained pilot carrying out a standard procedure to avoid harm in the course of his job. Plaintiff seeks reversal by arguing that defendants should not get a free pass simply because plaintiff avoided the disaster. [3/13/15]
